In a previous topic we compared getting your insurance license to getting a driver’s license. With your drivers license, every few years you need to renew it with your state. Usually you just pay a fee or you have to go into their processing center to do an eye sight test. They require such things to make sure you still have the ability to drive and understand the rules, before they renew your license for another term. With your insurance license there are similar renewals, just not one with an eye sight test. Depending on your state, you will have a start date when your license is active with an end date of when you need to renew it. But, before you can renew your license you will need to complete Continuing Education requirements, also know as CE.

Continuing Education (CE) are classes, self-study reading, online instruction, and/or live seminar obtained from a state approved provider. The topics relate to the insurance industry and the products that you are licensed to sell. CE credits are given for successfully completing a course. All courses are prepared based on the credit hour requirements set by the state’s department of insurance. Only those courses that are approved are accepted toward fulfilling the state requirements of insurance continuing education.

The number of CE credit hours required to get your insurance license renewed varies from state to state. You will have the time from when your license is issued to the renewal date to complete the CE requirement. So, in some states you could have years to complete the required credit hours. Watch the video below to find out how you can check on your state requirements for renewal CE.
